Women in ECR Leadership: Rebecca Zigterman

Who is a local female mentor of yours in Austin that’s made an impactful difference in your professional career?

I met one early on that taught me that opportunity and success are everywhere.  She coached me to just “be me” no matter what and encouraged me that I have what it takes.  Austin is so blessed when it comes to inspirational women who have paved the way and laid some great groundwork.

What advice do you have for a younger woman who is looking to put her foot in the door in the CRE industry?

Find open, encouraging, and positive mentors early on.  Take initiative to meet people in the industry – ask to have coffee and build those relationships.  Remember: you are uniquely able to serve others throughout your business and career, always stay true to who you are and what sets you apart from others. It won’t be easy, but give it your best and dig into the grind.

For the first time in history, women CEOs run more than 10% of Fortune 500 companies. How do you think this advancement in history will continue to pave the way for equity and diverse representation in leadership?

It demonstrates that inclusivity and equitable representation not only can be done, it’s effective.  It encourages aspiring women to contribute and make a difference – if they want to – all the way up to the top.  That’s powerful.

What’s one piece of advice you’d give your younger self?

Failure is nothing more than perspective; don’t fear it.  Confidence comes from how we grow and the sky really is the limit.
